“I’ll take courage from that! Thank you.”, she replied.
What did she say? Did I hear her correctly? “I’ll take courage from that.” All I did was try to encourage her.
And then it dawned on me...
The true purpose of encouragement is to help people to be courageous. It’s to help people take courage.
Encouragement instills courage in others.
It’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? Now that you look at it, “courage” is the central element in “encouragement”. Encouraging is defined as “inspiring with courage, spirit and confidence.”
Do you want to lead courageously? Do you want to live courageously?

Courage is a Choice:
- Courage is not a gift.
- It is not a talent.
- Courage is not a commodity that some are somehow born with an abundance of, and others are born with a scarcity.
- Fear is actually the prerequisite for courage. Without fear you have no need for courage.
Courage or Cowardice?
Courage is a choice to push through fear and move forward. Cowardice is caving into the fear and not moving forward.
So, take courage in the fact that everyone battles with fear. And, take courage in the fact that courage is like a muscle; the more you choose courage the more courageous you become.
